Starlight Princess Review
A pay-anywhere slot drawn in anime style, where the princess throws in random multipliers that keep stacking up through free spins. The original game behind an entire series.
4.4/5
Polaris rating · October 2026
Our Take: A tried-and-tested formula of pay-anywhere wins, tumbles and growing multipliers. It's a little tamer than the 1000 edition, which makes it the better starting point.

Starlight Princess Slot in Brief
The starlight princess slot pays whenever eight or more matching symbols appear anywhere on its 6×5 grid. Tumbles add extra wins, and multiplier orbs between 2× and 500× can boost any winning spin.
- Eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid make a win.
- Random multipliers from 2× to 500× are added together on a winning spin.
- During free spins, multipliers carry over and keep rising until the round ends.
How Starlight Princess Pays
Paylines don't exist on this 6×5 grid. Get eight or more of one symbol anywhere and it pays. Winning symbols vanish, replacements drop in, and the sequence carries on until no more wins form.
The princess can add multiplier symbols worth from 2× to 500× at any time. If the tumble sequence they land in produces a win, every multiplier on screen is added up and applied to the total.
Starlight Princess Free Spins and the Running Multiplier
Four or more scatters trigger 15 free spins, and three or more during the round add five more. What makes the feature special is that each multiplier involved in a win joins a running total that boosts every win after it. That's why the final spins of a good round usually pay far more than the opening ones.
You can pay 25% extra per spin for the Ante Bet, which doubles your chances of free spins, and some casinos offer a Bonus Buy at 100× your stake.
Starlight Princess Compared With Starlight Princess 1000, Pachi and Super Scatter
Pragmatic Play has built several games on this theme. The two core versions differ in only two numbers:
| Game | Largest multiplier | Top prize | RTP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starlight Princess (2021) | 500× | 5,000× | 96.50% |
| Starlight Princess 1000 | 1,000× | 15,000× | 96.50% |
Grid, scatters, Ante Bet and artwork are the same in both. Pachi and Super Scatter are different games in the family, each with mechanics of its own, so don't apply the figures on this page to them.
How Other Reviewers Rate Starlight Princess
Critics agree that Starlight Princess ranks among Pragmatic Play's best-loved pay-anywhere games, and most score it in the high eights out of ten. The growing free spins multiplier and bright anime visuals earn the most praise. Plenty of critics point out that underneath the anime art it's essentially Gates of Olympus, and a few reviewers point out that free spins can fizzle if multipliers don't arrive early.
Praised by reviewers
- Free spins with a multiplier that keeps building
- Simple, proven pay-anywhere design
- Ante Bet lets you raise bonus frequency
Where it falls short
- Very close to Gates of Olympus
- Lower 5,000× cap than newer versions
- Bonus rounds can end with little
Starlight Princess RTP, Volatility and Top Prize
Pragmatic Play lists a 96.50% return and rates the variance as high. Its cap of 5,000 times the bet trails the 1000 edition, yet it's still a life-changing number at most stakes. Most paying free spins rounds land somewhere between 20× and 200×.
Play Starlight Princess for Free First
Demo mode copies the real game's maths using play money, and a few hundred spins there reveal how often scatters drop and what a typical bonus is worth. Once you decide to play Starlight Princess for real cash, choose a stake that covers 200 spins or more.
Our Tips for Starlight Princess
- Only use the Ante Bet if you want more frequent bonuses and can cover the higher stake.
- Track the multipliers rather than the tumbles. An early big multiplier makes a round worth watching to the end.
- Enjoying it? Gates of Olympus 1000 uses the same mechanic with a higher ceiling.
